Overview

Richmond Canoe Club is the only placid water canoe club on the Underground network, situated within easy walking distance of Richmond Underground Station. The club trains paddlers of all abilities from novices to those competing at international level, and has a track record of entering crews for top national and international marathon competition.

The holders of the Devizes to Westminster team trophy in 2002 and 2003, the club offers a flexible programme of courses and bespoke training for those who want to improve their paddling performance as part of their training for extreme marathon races and adventure racing.

Part of the training will involve paddling in inflatable Kayaks. These Kayaks are the most common boat used in one and two day adventure racing and Richmond is the only club currently able to offer this oppotunity. Completion of any of the courses will allow you to rent these Kayaks from the canoe club for further training under the supervision of a qualified coach on the Thames.

The Introductory Course - Link

• No prior paddling experience required
• Eight hour course over one or two days
• Includes kayak and canoe experience
• Designed to convert your fitness into effective paddling power
• Accreditation to BCU 1* kayak on successful completion

The Intermediate course - Link

• Some prior experience required
• Preparation for accreditation for the Adrenaline Rush and other courses requiring a certified level of performance
• Four or eight hour course according to ability
• Includes kayak safety test and rescue techniques
• Accreditation to BCU 2* kayak for those with the required skills
