Saturday Club Groups



Junior progress Normally every Saturday 11:45. Please note: PLEASE NOTE: We will only be taking on new Juniors for Canadian canoeing until Saturday 2 August. Please contact Marcus Gohar on Marcus.gohar@bcu.org.uk
Coach: Roxane Marffy A group run for younger paddlers between the ages of 10 and 16. During the winter months this group spends more time in the gym, only paddling when the weather and waters allow.
Experienced Juniors Saturday 9:30, Tuesday & Thursday 17:30
Coach: Trevor Wetherall Race training for sprint and marathon competition. Glovers time of 5.30-6.00
Adult Reception - New Paddlers Saturday 13:30
Coach: Ulrik Lorentzen & Sarah Nosworthy

This is the group for complete novices and those who may not have paddled placid water boats before. All newcomers to the club are encouraged to take their first few outings with this group to learn their way around the Thames locally and to familiarise themselves with club safety procedures.

Adult Reception Saturday 9:00
Coach: Peter Barnes This open access group is for people that are new to canoe sport that have progressed from the 13:30 Adult Reception Group for new paddlers.
National Handicap: 37 or below
Glovers time: 7.35 or slower

Adult Improvers Saturday 10:00
Coach: Arranged on demand Run by Jim Mullaney, this group draws on the adult beginners group, offering the faster and more stable beginner the opportunity to learn the techniques they will need to progress into the more advanced groups. Jim can offer training to 3 star level in kayak and 2 star in open canoe.
National Handicap: 28 - 36
Glovers time: 6.50 - 7.30

Adult Intermediate Saturday 10:00
Coach: Trevor Wetherall and/or Ulrik Lorentzen This group allows those who want to improve their speed to learn the techniques necessary for successful racing and to improve their personal fitness. The group also helps paddlers improve their watermanship and can offer training to 3 star level in kayak and 2 star in open canoe.
National Handicap: 23 - 27
Glovers time: 6.25 - 6.45
Alternative Coaches: Organised as required
Adult Racers Saturday 10:00
Coach: Alexis Gohar A group for fast, experienced paddlers rather than a coaching group. You will require a good level of personal fitness and stamina; as a guide to speed, you should be paddling at Div 5 or above.
National Handicap: 17 or faster
Glovers time: 5.55 or faster

Women's Group Occasional
Coach: Liz Greasby Women's development.
Canadian Racing Monday evenings, Tuesday evenings, Saturday 10:00 (improvers), Saturday (beginners)
