High-Performance Pathway
& Olympic Aspiration
Richmond Canoe Club’s High-Performance Pathway supports talented paddlers aiming for regional, national and international success with a clear, progressive programme designed to develop an Olympic contender for 2028/2032. The pathway blends technical coaching, volume training, sports‑science support and competition exposure while retaining enjoyment and multi‑craft skills at earlier stages.

Details
Level 1: Junior Development Squad
Focus: technical fundamentals, aerobic base, multi‑craft skills and FUNdamentals.
Goals: build strong technique, race experience and a love of paddling.
Level 2: Performance Squad (Targeting GB/Regional)
Focus: preparation for national racing (e.g., National Regattas), introduction to higher training volumes.
Support: applied sports‑science (basic nutrition, strength & conditioning), race planning.
Level 3: Elite / International Squad (U23 & Senior)
Focus: targeted, periodised training for international competition (GB/Home Nations).
Features: high training frequency, advanced S&C, detailed performance monitoring and competition calendars.
Key dates

Pathway recruitment and trials: annually (spring) — exact dates to be confirmed each year.

Training season focus: April–July (on‑water) with year‑round strength & conditioning and winter training blocks.

Full club support: boats and paddling kit, ergos and indoor coaching space, clubhouse galley, changing rooms, showers, accessible changing room and lift
